~From Our Pastor~
Have you ever served on a jury? When I lived in Bogalusa, I received numerous letters summonsed for jury duty. Each time I was released from duty. (It was nice having the Clerk of Court as a member of the church). Just this past week, I received a questionnaire from the United States District Court. Proverbs 17:15 says, "He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord." The fate of a defendant rest in the hands of 12 jurors. What if an innocent man is sent to life in prison or a guilty man is set free?
There's only one person in the universe who has the right to do what for all of us is an abomination and that is to justify sinners, to declare guilty people innocent, and that is exactly what God does. The Bible is absolute when it comes to sins. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23. There is a day of reckoning. Isaiah 10: 3 "And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? To whom will ye flee for help? And where will ye leave your glory?"
We all have a life sentence to serve one day. Which will be yours? Heaven or Hell? There is only one sin that carries an eternal death sentence.
Many assume that sin is what sends a person to hell. But sin has been paid for by Jesus, therefore the only thing that condemns a person is rejecting the payment for sin. Jesus was the payment. God provided the way in Jesus so to reject Him you are rejecting the only way for salvation. This is a hard truth for some who look for multiple ways to heaven, but Jesus is the only one who tasted death in our place so we could be completely forgiven and righteous before God. It was the scribes and Pharisees who asked the question "who can forgive sins, but God alone?"
Psalm 32:1,2 "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile." There is one person in the universe who has the power, who has the authority, who has the right to declare guilty people innocent, to declare sinful people righteous, and that one singular person is the lawgiver and the judge and the executioner, God Himself. James 4:12 "There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?" He justifies the ungodly, declaring them innocent, righteous, forgiven. God did this through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. "Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to Trust and Obey.
